Following six years of negotiations, Worcester City Council (WCC), purchased a piece of land at Perdiswell for the sole purpose of developing a hockey facility.
Planning permission was granted in February 2020. The £2.9m project saw RGS Worcester and Worcester Hockey Club (WHC) form a Joint Venture to build the facility, now called Worcester International Hockey Centre.
The Centre has two water-based international Hockey pitches with state of the art flood-lighting. The pavilion has a small club room, 8 changing rooms with toilets, as well as an officials changing area. There are two grass football pitches - one full size and one junior pitch.
Worcester Hockey Club
Worcester Hockey Club is one of the largest hockey clubs in the Midlands with 7 Men's, 4 Women's and 2 Junior teams playing on a Saturday, many junior age group teams from under 12 to under 18, along with a midweek and occasional weekend Veterans team and two mixed teams. It takes safeguarding very seriously so is particularly delighted to be one of only a small number of clubs to hold England Hockey’s Club Mark accreditation.
WHC has a proud history of providing hockey related opportunities to the local community for over a century, whether it is playing, umpiring, coaching, supporting or providing administrative support; it is an inclusive club and strives to widen the appeal to the sport we all love, HOCKEY. WHC promotes hockey for both the social member and those seeking to play at a higher standard.
Speaking of elite hockey, some of its members have gained full international honours, England, Wales and South Africa, including participation in Olympic Games (Beijing 2008) together with World and European cup events. We also have players competing at international level in masters hockey at all levels.
The club participates in local and national leagues, domestic cup competitions at both junior and adult level, and for the more social member, it provides regular and well organised hockey, in mid-week and Saturday friendly matches, and leagues.

RGS Worcester Family of Schools
RGS Worcester was originally founded in Worcester around 685 by Bishop Bosel, making it the fifth oldest school in the United Kingdom and reputedly the sixth oldest in the world. The family of schools has four schools with more than 1400 pupils being educated from the age of 2 to 18 years.
The addition of a top-class facility, alongside the high level of coaching support each Hockey player receives at RGS, will significantly strengthen the provision across girls and boys sport. Contact time and space will allow each player to improve their technical skills, tactical knowledge and understanding of the game.
While RGS strive for honours and success, its core principle remains ‘Sport for All’. Put simply, this means that every child has the opportunity to find their level across a wide range of sports, including Hockey, with expert coaches to guide them.
The mental well-being derived from regular physical exercise and from positive shared experiences with teammates in a supportive environment, is integral to an RGS education and supports academic endeavours in the classroom.
